The Slow Death of a Website
By Mike Campbell, Director of Website Services
Many of today’s businesses understand the value and importance of a company website, although many do not understand the factors which contribute to its success. We understand that your website is the most powerful tool you can use to bring business to your door, and we have the skills, knowledge and commitment to make your site work for you! In this article we’ll outline some reasons why keeping your website up-to-date is important, and how Micro Market’s Website Maintenance Program goes beyond the ordinary to provide a dynamic marketing solution.
Fresh Content
Providing new, fresh content to your visitors will show them your company is active, and up-to-date. How often have you come across a site which is visibly outdated? Why should your website suffer because you are charged for every change you want your web design company to make? Unlike common web design companies, our Website Maintenance Program includes Unlimited Updates, all for a flat monthly fee. This means you won’t be penalized when you want to make changes to grow your business. Give us a call or send us the update, and we’ll take care of it right away.
Search Engines
Search engines look for sites that are current. They love recently updated websites, simply because they want to show up-to-date information to their users. Search engines begin to place less value on your website when content has not changed for some time. This is especially true for new websites, which have much to prove in a crowded online environment. Our Website Maintenance Programs aim to keep content fresh, and we will work with you to help keep your site dynamic and unlike others, we encourage regular updates!
Help People Find You
Why can’t you find your site? If you can’t find it, chances are no-one else will either… As a valuable part of our Website Maintenance Program, Micro Market will manage your website content to ensure it can be found by search engine users. You want your website to appear on the first page of results when people search for your products or services, and so do we. We research what keywords people are using in their searches, and make sure your site is using them too. This is commonly referred to as Search Engine Optimization. We’ll also install software on your website which will enable us to gather statistics on how people are finding you, and we’ll use this data to create new keywords.
Support
You will enjoy the benefit of having a website professional at your beck and call. We’ll be working behind the scenes to make your site work for you. Have a new product you want to add? Have you expanded your area of service, or have an announcement to make? No longer will you be forced to pay $50.00 (or more!) for each call or change you make. Any questions or concerns can be addressed by simply picking up the phone or sending us an email.
Don’t let your website die a slow death. By keeping it healthy it’ll grow your business; don’t let it fade away…

Tips and Tricks
Every month we'll include some tips and tricks which will enhance your Windows experience.
- Use a Web Graphic for your Desktop Wallpaper.
The Web has many beautiful pictures. If you find a picture you particularly like, you can make it your desktop background, so that you can see it whenever you use your computer.
1. Using Internet Explorer, open the page with the picture that you like.
2. Right-click the picture, and then click Set as Background.
3. Microsoft Windows XP displays the picture as your desktop background. For best results, use large pictures that are wider than they are tall. That's it!
- Using the Windows On-Screen Keyboard
Did you know Windows has a built-in keyboard you can use with your mouse? Let's say your keyboard decides to quit working, for one reason or another; what will you do?
- Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Accessibility, and then On-Screen Keyboard.
- The On-Screen Keyboard and On-Screen Keyboard dialog box appear. Click OK.
- You can now use the On-Screen Keyboard by clicking the buttons with your mouse. To hold down the SHIFT, CTRL, or ALT keys, just click them once, and the keys will stay pressed until you click the next key.
Client Profile: Daltco Electric & Supply Limited
http://www.daltco.com
Daltco Electric & Supply (1979) Ltd was started by John Dalton in 1977 in Kingston, Ontario. The business expanded to Brockville and Renfrew in 1983 through the acquisition of two Kesco Electric branches. The Renfrew location later moved to Kanata, Ontario. Daltco Electric is Eastern Ontario's largest independent electrical distributor, serving the industrial, contractor, commercial, property management and government/institutional markets. We are a multi service and full stocking company focused on the electrical, automation, lighting and data communication market segments. Daltco is proud to be a Canadian owned and operated business.
Starting in the mid 1800's, the Dalton family has been in the wholesale distribution business for over 150 years. Originally delivering products via horse and buggy, their market was independent hardware stores. Today they are a market leader focused on electrical, lighting, safety, and automation products. While the names of the company and products have changed, their philosophy of delivering the greatest value possible to the customer has not.
The Need
As a successful business, Daltco Electric had grown from a single office to multiple locations. As they grew they kept adding equipment to meet their needs until they had a wide range of computers in their different offices. There was no dedicated backup system in place to protect their data, and all locations were on dial up connections. There were no standards for their computer platforms or their corporate software, which resulted in complex and costly support requirements. As well, all three offices shared the same inventory control system and internet service was unreliable and difficult to manage.
How did Micro Market Help?
Through the OnServe program, Micro Market analyzed their existing network and support channels. We also met with the owner of the company and learned about his plans for the growth of the business. With this information we were able to develop a plan to upgrade their network to meet their current and future requirements on a predictable budget.
We standardized all PC’s on a common hardware and software platform for all new equipment. We implemented a secure backup strategy for their critical information, and monitor their backups daily. To share their central inventory system we redesigned their network topography and implemented a Terminal Services server network. All inventory information is on a shared server in Kingston, which is accessed through a Wide Area Network (WAN) between their offices through the use of Cisco Routers. This allows any employee to log on from any workstation at any office, or even from home, and get access to their network. Because they rely upon the internet to conduct business, we also provided them with redundant internet connectivity, so that if one service provider went down, they would still be able to operate. This has enabled Daltco to better service their customers, which will help them to grow their business.
“Micro Market has been an excellent resource for hardware and software solutions, and they have been instrumental in creating a reliable cost effective network.” Peter Dalton, President.
