OnServe Managed IT Services
By Ken Reid, President - OnServe
Many of you have been asking about our OnServe program, what it does, and
the benefits that it can offer. In this newsletter I will explain a little about
OnServe and why it is a good choice for businesses that are focused on growth.
What is OnServe?
OnServe delivers Information Technology (IT) Management Services for small
and midsize businesses. We provide companies with all of the resources
needed to manage their IT department without the associated financial burden.
Our OnServe program is very agile and can be customized to meet any of your
needs, from managing a single server, to providing full support like an in-house
IT department.
Why are successful companies and organizations choosing OnServe?
Many companies know that growing their business can present many
challenges, and trying to manage their IT at the same time can be time
consuming and frustrating. Through the use of our OnServe program, business
owners and managers can concentrate on growing their business, while we
take care of the hassles of managing their network and computers.
Many of our public sector and institutional clients have found OnServe
beneficial as a complement to their existing IT resources. By having OnServe
assist in the essential IT management, their internal staff now have more time to
implement and manage projects that actually improve productivity.
Using OnServe reduces costs
With the advent of our OnServe remote monitoring and management technologies, it is now possible to detect potential network and computer issues and react from anywhere. Ninety percent of network problems can now be resolved remotely at a much lower cost. Better economies, means better prices! Unlike the pay as you go and bulk hour contracts provided by common service providers, the OnServe program provides services which are rendered under a reasonable, fixed monthly rate. OnServe delivers better system performance and reduced operating costs.
Access to a team of experts
As a business owner or manager, you can’t be expected to maintain these high levels of expertise in-house, let alone be able to afford them. Outsourcing your IT services to a responsible Managed IT Service Provider (MSP) like OnServe, provides you access to experts whose sole job is to help you get more from your IT Resources. Having OnServe looking after your network is like having your own team of Certified Professionals on staff.
Strategic guidance and Consulting
OnServe provides consulting and IT planning services as part of our complete service offering. That means that you will be able to make better decisions regarding your IT requirements. Let us help you maximize the use of your current resources. Gone are the days of relying on your in-house guru for todays hot IT picks, or the “professional” advice advocated from the pimple nosed kid at the big box store. Make sound decisions based on expert advice from industry certified experts.
Better use of internal resources
I’m sure you agree that running a small business is a challenge, and to be successful you need to focus your talents on the areas that make you money. If you or your management staff is spending time on your IT systems, then you’re not focusing on the growth of your business. Through the use of our OnServe program you can actually increase your productivity!
You know your business, we know IT.
Our goal is to position OnServe as a leading supplier of IT Management Services by developing a proactive approach to supporting your IT needs while also maintaining an economy of service.

Client Profile: RW Electric
http://www.rwelectric.com/
Established in 1967, R. W. Electric is a family owned business and is also one of Eastern Ontario's most recognized electrical contractors. Originally serving just the home market with 2 employees, they have expanded into a full service electrical contractor with 18 staff who provides service to residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional customers.
R. W. Electric offers clients a wide range of services through its diverse operations. These include installation and maintenance of pole lines, submarine cables, outdoor/indoor lighting, underground locates, and traffic signals & street lighting. Their equipment fleet is comprised of service trucks, bucket trucks, a backhoe, auger trucks and a mini excavator, and they even have two barges for island work.
Although the company has grown substantially since its early years, R. W. Electric still adheres to their genuine commitment of delivering to their client’s quality workmanship, prompt service and good value for their money. The next time you see crews working on signal lights or street lighting systems, chances are you’ll see the RW Electric Inc. logo on the truck.
The Need
RW Electric had grown to the size where they needed help to manage their network and didn’t know how to proceed. They were experiencing issues that are shared by many companies who have always tried to manage their network in-house, and who didn’t have the IT expertise. As they grew, they were purchasing computers to meet their current needs, without planning for the future of their network. Their email was hosted by an outside service provider and was difficult to manage. They were concerned with people getting unauthorized access to files on their network. Their Office Manager had become the “go to” person when any of the staff were having problems with their computers, programs, and network. She was experiencing many interruptions which were affecting her ability to handle the daily affairs of the business. When problems did occur, they would generally bring their operation to a standstill until they were solved. They also needed to be able to share their Outlook calendars for scheduling of staff, and needed to integrate a new office in Almonte into their network.
How did Micro Market Help?
We made recommendations that would help them get their IT resources under control. We installed a Microsoft Small Business Server with Exchange to move them into a networked environment. This allowed them to share their Outlook calendar, manage their email more effectively, and to manage the security for accounting files and other sensitive data. We also installed Microsoft Terminal Services to allow their staff to log in remotely and access the network from anywhere. This also enabled their staff in Almonte to securely log in and work locally, send and receive email, and access company files as though they were in the office in Kingston.
RW Electric also signed up for our Platinum OnServe Program which allowed their Office Manager to concentrate on activities which were important to her, and that would help them grow their business. Through OnServe, they are also receiving unlimited onsite and remote support, strategic guidance, and network planning which will maximize the use of their IT investment, and help them move into the future.
Their owner, Bob Hodgson, has expressed that he has always been looking at better ways to use new technology, but the time involved in researching how to implement it was very cost prohibitive. “With OnServe, I now have the resources to help me make the right decisions.”
